I think sometimes as pet owners we forget that these are natural behaviors that would be exhibited if the cat were in the wild. Regardless though, with children involved it’s obviously important to maintain a healthy environment so there are a number of things you can do to prevent this from occurring.

One thing is to put a bell around the cat’s neck. While cat’s frequently use the crouch and wait attack method, it’s still more likely to give mice a chance to escape than not wearing one in the first place.

Another option is to keep a cat indoors. This isn’t an option in all circumstances but it’s an option for some and may be the best 100% guarantee if it’s really becoming a big problem.

One other way if you live on a rural property is to put traps and snares out for the mice in areas where you know mice frequent like barns, animal food storage and other areas.

To ensure these wild animals don’t enter your home – yet still allow the cat outdoors it may become necessary to remove the cat door so they can’t bring them into the house itself.

It may be possible to wear out the cat so it has no energy to continue this behavior, but in all likelihood even a well fed and well entertained cat will still hunt.

One frustrating thing of being a cat owner that’s primarily indoors is them going on the kitchen counters when you go out for the day or while your sleeping! Finding hair in your sink, your soup spoons, laddle rests and other areas is only half the issue. What they may or may not have licked while you were sleeping is enough to drive you nuts! The other thing that really sucks is when cats make a bed out of your couch and you wind up with more pet-hair on the couch than you could have ever imagined. It sure builds up quick.

Just because of cats and couches, you wind up buying a small dollar store just to support your habit of buying lint brushes! You’re always breaking a sweat before company comes over hoping to vacuum the couch of every last strand of hair before you hear a knock at the door. This has been going on in our home for waay too long.We were using the Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum and it really does work great on couches for pet hair removal and stairs. My wife swears by the thing… But it really shouldn’t be happening in the first place, right?

Then I found the Tattle Tale Sonic Pet Training Alarm. Reviews of the thing scream of just how well it works to rid cats of key areas.

It works great! – I think of the two who complained on Amazon that it didn’t work didn’t adjust the sensitivity on it. For most couches and kitchen jobs you’ll need at least 2 sensors.

Answer…

It’s always diet… But the key part is why…

#1. Perhaps your cat ate something they shouldn’t have… if that’s the case they should stop getting sick within 3 days.
#2. Perhaps your cat’s on the wrong food, a lower quality food won’t have their dietary requirements met OR not be right for their age, talk to a veterinarian in your area about what foods are available nearby or cheap supplements that might replace what’s not in the affordable foods.
#3. Excess hair. When a cat HAS excess hair, they’ll get sick quite a bit because they’re anxious to clean themselves, they ingest this hair and of course get hairballs and puke those up. Hairball remedies are cheap and breakdown the hair so they can digest it.
#4. Indigestion – for whatever reason some cats really like that pet grass you can get at walmart, pet stores or some produce stores to chew on and help settle their tummies.

Hope that helps!
